New website posts food recalls for South Carolina

By Peter Kent

With dozens of food recalls and alerts each month, keeping track of the latest food safety information can be a daunting task.

Clemson’s Home and Garden Information Center (HGIC) is helping South Carolinians keep up with advisories from government and companies on a new website:

“A recent recall of foods containing hydrolyzed vegetable protein, a flavoring ingredient, really brings the need home for a website,” said Pamela Schmutz, HGIC food safety specialist. "We plan to list every food recalled that is sold in S.C. retail stores.”

Recalls will be posted daily as they are announced (except for weekends and holidays) to keep the website current.
