Snell Vegetable Garden

Bean tower in the Vegetable Garden

Located off the lower lawn of the Fran Hanson Discovery Center grounds, the A. Harvey Snell Vegetable Garden is a lush and productive display of a typical kitchen garden in the Southeast. The garden produces fruit and vegetables for three seasons. In spring and fall, you'll find a variety of lettuces, kohlrabi, onions, peas, herbs and other cooler-season vegetables. In summer, look for blueberries, basil, dill, cucumber, and a wide variety of beans, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant and squash.

Peppers growing in the Vegetable GardenMany of the plants in the garden are also available for sale as transplants at Garden Fest, the SCBG's annual kitchen gardening festival, held in early April. Seeds for kitchen gardening can be purchased at Garden Fest, at the SCBG Plant Sales, or through the Clemson Seed Foundation (www.clemson.edu/seed).
