Research Interests: Chemical Process Design, Analysis, Optimization and Control
Dr. Gooding's interests encompass chemical process design, analysis, optimization and control. His research and teaching activities range from analysis of microscopic transport phenomena to economic evaluation of full-scale chemical plants. He employs modeling and simulation tools as well as fundamental experiments to develop and improve chemical processes. Recent research activities have related primarily to alternative energy sources and environmentally sustainable process operations. Working under Department of Energy support he has conducted simulations and experimental verification studies on a chlorine scrubber for the mixed oxide nuclear waste conversion process and on chlorine reactions that are critical to several alternative, thermo-chemical cycles for hydrogen production. He is currently working with the rendering industry on issues related to environmental and economic sustainability.
