Matthew "Matt" Powers, Ph.D., ASLA, Associate Professor, is the Director of Landscape Architecture and Undergraduate Programs in the School of Architecture at Clemson University. Matt has directed bachelors, masters, doctoral, off-campus, and interdisciplinary academic programs. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from West Virginia University and a Master of Landscape Architecture and Ph.D. in Environmental Design and Planning from Virginia Tech. Matt has taught a range of studios, mostly focused on beginning design and community design, at Virginia Tech, Florida A&M, and Clemson University. His primary research interests include design pedagogy, healthy campuses, and learning landscapes. Prior to entering academia, he worked as a designer and project manager in West Virginia, South Carolina, Florida, and Virginia. Dr. Powers and his students have received state and national awards for outstanding research and innovative design.
