Rhetorics, Communication, and Information Design, Ph.D.

Find Your Voice

RCID is an interdisciplinary doctoral program that explores how rhetoric, communication and information shape cultural meaning and the ways people create, interpret and engage with the world. Rather than being defined by a single discipline, the program brings together perspectives from rhetorics, communication and media studies, information design, digital humanities, technical and professional communication, visual culture and related fields to examine complex questions across evolving technological, cultural and social contexts.

At the heart of the program is the program’s commitment to knowing, doing and making: a model that encourages students to explore critical inquiry, creative production and applied research. Students work closely with faculty to develop individualized programs of study that reflect their research interests while engaging with a flexible curriculum, interdisciplinary collaboration and innovative methods of scholarship. Whether producing traditional academic research, multimodal projects, community-engaged work or digital scholarship, RCID students are prepared to contribute meaningful research and creative work across academic, professional, and public settings.
