Lifeguarding Courses

American Red Cross Lifeguarding course sponsored by the Department of Campus Recreation.

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a Lifeguarding Training and First Aid certification as well as CPR/AED certification for the Professional Rescuer, all valid for 2 years. Participants must be at least 15 years of age to participate in the course. Course sessions will include lectures, activities, videos, hands on practice as well as water sessions (to include scenarios and hands on practice), and two final written exams.

Cost

$200 for university affiliates

$225 for others.


Register at the welcome center desk in Fike Monday–Friday 8 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Payment for all certification courses is non-refundable.


Upcoming Courses

FALL 2016:

October 7 (4:30-9 p.m.), 8 (9 a.m.–6 p.m), 9 (9:00 a.m.–6 p.m). The registration deadline is September 30.

SPRING 2017:

January 20 (4:30–9 p.m.), 21 (9 a.m.–6 p.m.), 22 (9 a.m.–6 p.m.). The registration deadline is January 13.

February 10 (4:30–9 p.m.), 11 (9 a.m.–6 p.m.), 12 (9 a.m.–6 p.m.). The registration deadline is February 3.

March 10 (4:30–9 p.m.), 11 (9 a.m.–6 p.m.), 12 (9 a.m.–6 p.m.). The registration deadline is March 3.

April 7 (4:30–9 p.m.), 8 (9 a.m.–6 p.m.), 9 (9 a.m.–6 p.m.). The registration deadline is March 31.

May 19 (4:30–9 p.m.), 20 (9 a.m.–6 p.m.), 21 (9 a.m.–6 p.m.). The registration deadline is May 12.


The first half of the class will be located in the Fike Lounge, then class moves to the pool for aquatic skill practice and demonstration.


Course Prerequisites

Participants must be able to pass a prerequisite swimming and skills test on the first class meeting consisting of the following:


Attendance and Refunds

Course fees are non-refundable if the participant does not attend, does not demonstrate skill competency, or fails the written test.


Refunds will be given to registrants if they are unable to attend and request a refund a full 48 hours in advance. A processing fee may apply. To request a refund at least 48 hours in advance, e-mail: vrober1@clemson.edu  


If a class is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances participants have the option to be moved to another scheduled course or have a full refund issued.
