Policy and Procedures

General Facility Information

Department of Campus Recreation Conduct

All students, faculty/staff members, community members, guests and other patrons must conduct themselves properly and respect staff directives while using Department of Campus Recreation Facilities. Participants in all Campus Recreation activities should display high standards of sportsmanship and should cooperate fully with the Campus Recreation staff to ensure safe and successful operations. All users must follow the Department of Campus Recreation policies, obey all Clemson University policies and follow all local, state and federal laws.

Policy for Fitness Equipment Use and Pool Use

Dependants must be at least 15 years old to use the fitness equipment without and adult. Dependants 13-15 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Younger dependants are not allowed to use the fitness equipment. Dependants must be at least 15 years old and good swimmers to use the pool without an adult.

Personal Training

Personal training is prohibited in Fike Recreation Center unless the training services are being conducted through a Fike contracted personal trainer.

Guests of Students and Employees/Occasional Users

Guests may use the facilities for which a member is eligible only when accompanied by that member.  Guest charges are $6 per day per person and you must have exact change or check. Persons who are visiting Clemson on official University business also qualify as guests by registering through the Department of Conference, Guest & Visitor Programs or by calling (864) 656-6559. A Clemson University employee who is not a Campus Recreation member and who wants to occasionally use our facilities can be admitted upon payment of the $6 guest fee. Occasional use by University employees does not include privileges such as family hours, court reservations, locker assignments or equipment checkout. All guests & occasional users must register at the front desk before using any of our facilities.

Accident Procedures

Everyone that utilizes the Department of Campus Recreation Facilities does so at their own risk and is responsible for their own welfare and safety. Anyone injured while utilizing the Department of Campus Recreation Facilities must contact a Student Facility Supervisor at the front desk immediately.  The Campus Recreation Staff will attend to these situations and act as a first responder. 911 will be called for vital emergencies and EMS/CUPD will be summoned. Please report all hazardous conditions or injuries to the Facility Supervisor immediately.

Lost or Stolen Items

The Department of Campus Recreation is not responsible for any lost or stolen items. Feel free to stop by the Facility Control Desk during normal operating hours to verify if your item has been located. Items will not be kept for more than two weeks. Please contact the Facility Control Desk if you experience a theft of property and contact CUPD to complete a police report.

Equipment Use

Sports equipment may be checked out at the Facility Control Desk at the entrance of Fike without charge for students and paid members. Patrons must show a valid membership ID card and Photo ID or Clemson University ID card and complete the sign in sheet.  All equipment must be returned the same day. All patrons are responsible for the replacement cost of any item(s) damaged, mutilated or lost.

Special Groups

Those who are attending University sponsored, non-credit academic programs may use the University recreation facilities (tennis courts, Cooper Recreation Area, Fike Recreation Center ) only when the sponsoring group has made advance arrangements. Outdoor Tennis Courts and Tennis Center Rules

The University tennis courts are available to students, faculty, staff and University tennis teams.
The following outlines the regulations and schedules for the courts:

All users must have a valid Campus Recreation membership or purchase a guest pass at Fike.  All individuals using the Indoor Tennis Center must have their card with them at all times.

It is strongly recommended that each participant have a medical examination and physician approval prior to engaging in any physical activity with regards to any recreational facility.

This is a shared use facility with the Clemson University Athletic Department and Department of Campus Recreation.  Athetics will have top priority followed by academics, Intramural and Club sports, and recreational use.

The Athletic Department and Department of Campus Recreation have collaborated to make this athletic venue available for the benefit of Clemson University students as well as members of Fike Recreation Center.

The Athletic Department and Department of Campus Recreation have become advocates for each other to promote their interests, while at the same time preserving the integrity, mission, and purpose of their own programs.

The indoor courts are reserved by the Intercollegiate Tennis Teams on all home matches as well as multiple practice times, see Athletic Department web site for match schedules: http://clemsontigers.cstv.com/

The Intercollegiate Tennis Teams may use the entire indoor facility during all matches, tournaments, practices, camps, and clinics outside of the 12-2pm M-F timeframe.

Appropriate exercise attire is required.  Only non-marking athletic court shoes are allowed.  Open toe shoes are not permitted.

Food, beverages, chewing gum, tobacco and glass are not permitted.  Leak-proof personal water bottles are permissible on the court.

Leaning, hanging, or pushing on the net is not permitted.

Equipment may not be moved, altered, or removed without authorization from the Department of Athletics and the Department of Campus Recreation.

Follow proper court etiquette at all times (no pushing, swearing, yelling, throwing objects, or rough play).

Willful or negligent damage caused to the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center will be paid for by the responsible member.

The Department of Athletics and Campus Recreation reserve the right to alter, revise, or change the general policies and facility hours at any time.

All reservations of the facility must be coordinated through a representative of the Athletic Department and Campus Recreation.

Users must comply with all Clemson University, City of Clemson, State of SC, and Federal laws and policies.

J.R. Roy Cooper Area

This recreation area provides swimming, boating, picnic facilities, game fields, gymnasium and multipurpose room. Information about reserving areas is available by calling the Foothills Area YMCA at (864) 654-9622.

Golf

No golf practice should take place on any of the multipurpose fields such as Bowman Field, Club Sports fields or the Intramural fields. For information about the Walker Golf Course on the Clemson University campus call (864) 656-0236.
