The Clemson University Climbing Wall may be used by full time Clemson University students; part-time students who are members of Campus Recreation; faculty and staff who are members of Campus Recreation; community wellness members of Campus Recreation; and the spouses and dependents of the above who have individual memberships or who come under family memberships. The minimum age for use of the Climbing Wall is eight. Use of the Climbing Wall and climbing gear during regular operating hours is free of charge. Food and drinks are not permitted in the climbing area but may be used in a space adjacent to the Climbing Gym. Folding tables can be provided upon request.
Before using the Climbing Wall, all climbers must fulfill the requirements detailed below.
Orientation Classes are scheduled during each 2-hour period that the Climbing Wall is open. Orientation classes are required for all new climbers. Climbers who have completed the leisure skills climbing course or who have previous climbing experience may choose to challenge the belay test. Patrons must be at least 8 years of age to use the Climbing Wall.
Patrons must complete a Release and Waiver of Liability/Informed Consent and a Climbing Wall Use Agreement before being permitted to use the climbing wall. This form must be signed by a parent for minors (persons under 18 years of age).
All climbers must receive instruction in safety rules and basic climbing tips prior to climbing.
Climbers must be belayed by a qualified individual (climbing wall staff member or a person at least 15 years of age who has successfully completed belay training and/or a belay qualification test administered by the climbing wall staff). Minors under 15 years of age must be belayed by a qualified individual 18 years of age or older.
