Fitness Class Descriptions

Fitness classes are open to all Fike patrons at any time.  Check our schedule to see which classes are currently being offered and come join in on the fun! 

LOW INTENSITY

Body Fit: A low impact class which highlights total body conditioning. It uses simple equipment to improve muscle strength, flexibility, and endurance. This class is especially designed for individuals 50 and older.

Pranayama:  Learn this ancient technique of breathing and breath control to regulate energy flow and maintain energy balance.

LOW TO MODERATE INTENSITY

Aquatic Fitness: A self-paced shallow or deep water fitness class that focuses on both cardio and toning elements utilizing various pieces of equipment. This class is great for core body strength as well as overall fitness, plus it puts a kick start into your day!  Fridays are designated deep water days!

Restorative Yoga: During the day we make choices that hurt our bodies - knowingly or unknowingly.  Lower back pain, wrist issues, and loss of up to 1 inch in height can happen to all of us after long days of sitting in front of a computer.  Join us for Restorative Yoga - the same strengthening and lengthening poses you love, but with an added emphasis on joint health and relaxation to end your day.  Common aches and pains will be addressed, and breathing techniques will be introduced throughout this flow-style class. 

Sunrise Yoga: A great way to start your morning! This class will be held on the sundeck outside of the natatorium barring any inclement weather.

PiYo:  This fusion class focuses on the core principles of both Pilates and Yoga.  It emphasizes flexibility and meditation through Yoga techniques, while targeting core muscles, lengthening, strengthening, and toning the body through Pilates.

MODERATE INTENSITY

Abs and Glutes: This class focuses on core strength and lower body toning. The instructor also incorporates exercises for the lower back to maintain muscle balance.

Hip Hop Hustle: Hip Hop Hustle combines choreographed, easy-to-learn moves and high energy music to create a wonderfully unique class that focuses on total body fitness. No previous dance experience needed. 

Pilates: This class is designed for everyone. Pilates increases balance, flexibility, and posture. Participants isolate their core muscles while sculpting the rest of the body. This class introduces the seven core principles of the discipline.

Tone and Trim: A total body sculpting class using weights, exercise bands, and personal body resistance. This class works on toning and strengthening all the major muscle groups.

Washboard Abs: This 30 minute class focuses on core strength which includes both the abdominal and lower back regions. Washboard abs incorporates stability balls, medicine balls, weights, body resistance, and more as it strengthens the midsection. Join us for this quick but intense workout.

Yoga Flow: This class consists of a series of movements synchronized with deep breathing. Students will focus on building strength, flexibility, balance, and focus, and will leave the class feeling energized and refreshed. The aim is to fit all fitness levels, so anyone is welcome! 

MODERATE TO HIGH INTENSITY

Advanced Yoga Flow: A class targeted to those that have previously practiced yoga. A physically challenging class that consists of flowing through a series of advanced poses. This class provides an atmosphere to advance your practice, build strength and increase flexibility.

Beginner 5k Training: Don't consider yourself a runner? Try out this new class and take in the sights of the community and campus as you work up to running a 5k (that's 3.1 miles!). Information on correct running form and technique will be provided by the instructor. No prior running experience required. This class meets on the Lower Intramural Field and will be held outside barring inclement weather. Be sure to bring your own water!

BOSU Blast: Come join us for a cardio class using the BOSU - BOth Sides Utilized! This equipment is used throughout this class to strengthen the core and all major muscle groups. Come blast away the fat!

Circuit Training:  A circuit training class that is aimed to get you in shape and educate about physical fitness.  Join us for a 60 minute workout that will give you the total body workout you crave!

Express Cycling: 30 minutes of hardcore cycling when you're running short on time. Get in and get out while toning that lower body!

Express Cycling with Abs & Glutes: 30 minutes of intense cycling followed by 30 minutes of lower body and core work. There will be a short break in the middle for you to join in or sneak out!

Interval Cycle: We do away with the high impact maneuvers and long-endurance nature that so many spin sessions have. Instead, our sessions will alternate between brief periods of high intensity and recovery. A water bottle and towel is required for this class.

Kickboxing: Punch, kick, and block away those calories through this cardio workout!

Step: This is a beginner level class designed to familiarize the participants with simple step choreography. The focus of this cardio workout is to increase the heart rate while sculpting the lower body.

Turbo Kick: Join us for the hottest kickboxing class around. You’ll kick, punch and groove the calories away in this action-packed, super fun, super safe and effective cardiovascular workout. Come get in shape with this new workout!

Zumba:  Dance your way through this non-stop, get-down-and-dance, calorie burning, high energy workout!

HIGH INTENSITY

Advanced Circuit Training: Approximately two to three 15 minute rounds of intense exercise that involves exercises for the upper and lower body, abdominals, as well as cardio work. Plyometrics and dynamic movement are incorporated to achieve muscle toning and body sculpting. If you want a challenge, this is the class for you!

BODYPUMP™: Join us for 60 minutes of weight training with barbells and adjustable weights to build strength, tone up, and increase your metabolism by burning fat! Every muscle group is worked throughout the class to create a challenging but exciting workout each time. Don't miss out on the newest class at Fike!

Calorie Killer: Cross train your body with this high intensity cardio and strength training class. Calorie Killer involves simple, yet intense drills on the step, along with hi/lo floor patterns. The instructor combines a cardio workout with an array of strength training and toning exercises to create an effective cross training workout.

Cycling: Pedal those calories off in this effective cardio workout through hill climbing drills, race pace exercises, fat burning movements, and pace pedaling while sculpting the lower body.

F.I.T.: Full-body Interval Training. This class uses a variety of equipment including weighted vests, plyometric boxes, jump ropes, heavy dumbbells, and pull up bars for the ultimate workout.  Come out and get F.I.T.

Strength & Conditioning: Get up and get going with this total body workout. This class incorporates not only the equipment located in the aerobics studio but also the free weights located in Fike’s atrium.
