The Clemson University Outdoor Recreation and Education Program provides the Clemson University Community the opportunity to participate in a variety of outdoor adventure activities. Trips and instructional programs are scheduled throughout the year and include backpacking, hiking, river running, canoeing, sea kayaking, and rock climbing. Trips can be designed for every skill level, from the beginner to the advanced adventurer. As part of CORE's commitment to education, skills workshops are also offered Leave No Trace, rock climbing, whitewater kayaking, and bicycle maintenance. In addition to these programs, CORE also provides an equipment rental service, a bike program, and staff who can serve as resource personnel to help groups plan their own adventure trips.

CORE activities are open to participation by Clemson University students and members of Fike Recreation Center. Trip size is limited and registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. To register, click on the "Register On-Line" link on directly above, or stop by our office located at the Campus Beach. Students and members of Campus Recreation receive a reduction in program fees (Note: Program fees are nonrefundable with the exception of a program cancellation or when the participant finds a replacement.) Each trip has a mandatory pre-trip orientation meeting; participants unable to attend the scheduled meeting should contact the Trip Leader in advance to arrange a make-up time.
Outdoor adventure activities can be exciting and rewarding, but by their very nature they may also be physically demanding and potentially dangerous. While our highest priority is given to safety, participants need to be aware of the inherent risks associated with participation in outdoor recreation activities, as well as the responsibility they assume for their own safety and well-being. Participants are responsible for medical or other costs arising out of bodily injury, illness, or property damage that may be sustained as a result of their voluntary participation, and they are required to sign a Release and Waiver of Liability/Informed Consent.

Groups wishing to experience the wilderness may contract with CORE to help plan, coordinate, and provide leadership for an outdoor adventure trip designed according to their interests and expectations. The program fee is dependent upon the type of trip, group size, and the services to be provided by CORE. We have done custom trips for Sororities, Fraternities, Clubs and Academic Departments. Our most popular trips include rafting, kayaking and camping. Additional information about Custom Adventure Trips and how to get started in planning your group's first trip is available in the CORE office.
Most of the equipment that you will need on a CORE trip is provided as part of the activity fee; however, some people are looking to plan their own adventures. As a service, the Clemson Outdoor Recreation and Education Program has a variety of backpacking and camping equipment available for short- term rental.
CORE manages the climbing wall located in Fike Recreation Center. Everything you need to get into the sport of climbing is provided including a harness, belay device, ropes, shoes and quality instruction. Routes are changed frequently on the wall, and a great community of climbers is always present during our hours of operation.
Students with outdoor recreation skills and group leadership experience are needed to serve as trip leaders. Applications are available online by clicking the following link:
