Publications
The pamphlet for the Office of Access and Equity provides information on the purpose and responsibilities of this office. It also outlines the affirmative action-related publications found on file in our office, which is located in 110 Holtzendorff Hall.
The following publications have been developed by the Office of Access and Equity:
- The Affirmative Action Plan was developed under guidelines established by the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) and the South Carolina Human Affairs Commission (SHAC). This report contains the University's Affirmative Action Policy and a breakdown of the current work force by race, sex and job groups. It identifies underrepresentation of women and ethnic/racial minorities by job groups and sets goals and timetables for alleviating underrepresentation. This plan is revised every year and is on file in the Office of Access and Equity. University employees responsible for recruitment, selection and supervision should be familiar with the Affirmative Action Plan and the general provisions of the laws requiring affirmative action and equal employment opportunity.
- The Affirmative Action and Equal Employment Opportunity Handbook presents the laws, regulations and policies addressing discrimination, affirmative action and equal employment opportunity. The handbook explains requirements and clarifies the responsibilities of University employees in the implementation of these procedures. While providing both general guidelines and specific procedures, the handbook is designed to provide a greater understanding of the concept of affirmative action and equal employment opportunity to ensure fairness in employment practices.
- Sexual Harassment: What You Need To Know is a guide for administrators, supervisors, faculty, staff and students. This publication defines sexual harassment, describes how to recognize and respond to it and offers suggestions on how to discourage sexual harassment from happening. Options for resolving complaints are also discussed.
- The Minority Recruitment/Retention Plan is a publication required by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education to provide information on the University's effort to recruit and retain minority faculty, staff and students. The plan is prepared and published every five years.
