Eligibility and Important Facts


In order to participate in a carpool, the following criteria must be met:

  • Must consist of at least 2 participants.

  • Participants must be either a Clemson University full-time permanent employee with an office address on the main campus or a full-time student with majority of classes on the main campus between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

  • Participants must share a ride to and from campus on a regular basis (at least 4 days a week).

  • Motorcycles, motor scooters, and mopeds are excluded from the carpool program.

  • Participants must live along a reasonable commuting path

  • Carpool permits may take up to three business days to process and may take longer the first week of the semester.  Please display a valid commuter permit or temporary $2/day commuter permit as needed to park in commuter spaces while you wait for your carpool application to be processed.

  • The following original documentation must be provided to the office:

    1. Each person in the carpool must complete their part of the carpool application available below.

    2. Each person must provide provide a copy of their Clemson University ID.

    3. Each person must provide a copy of their driver's license.
    4. Each person must provide a copy of proof of local residency.

    5. Each carpool applicant must have and provide a copy of proof of their own separate vehicle ownership (i.e. vehicle registration).

    6. Each carpool applicant serving as a Graduate Research Assistant must provide verification of their schedule from an advisor.


Any changes to the carpool participants must be declared to Parking Services within 3 business days. This includes addition, deletion, or changes to the members. Any loss of a carpool participant by change in affiliation or any abuse or deception by any member in the carpool program is grounds for surrendering the carpool permit. Any type of falsification or improper use of carpool parking permit or persistent violations are grounds for citations, impoundment of vehicle, or revocation of parking privileges for a faculty, staff or student. Misuse includes, but is not limited to, displaying hangtag in a vehicle not registered to the carpool and affixing carpool permit to vehicles not registered in the carpool.


If the total participant count of the carpool falls below 2, the carpool will be disbanded and the members will be required to obtain normal parking permits.

Have someone bring in the application to the office, along with each participant's original Clemson University XID card, proof of separate vehicle ownership, driver's license, and proof of local residence. Within three business days all participants will receive an email with instructions on how to pick up the carpool permits.  Please display a valid commuter permit or temporary $2/day commuter permit as needed to park in commuter spaces while you wait for your carpool application to be processed.
