  • Primary Care
    Student Health Services offers comprehensive preventive and outpatient health care services, primarily to Clemson University students. Physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses and medical assistants are available to provide continuous, quality medical care. Patients are encouraged to make appointments to be seen for illness and injuries as they occur throughout their stay at Clemson.
  • Nurse's Clinic
    Although Redfern Health Center is not an emergency room or urgent-care clinic, we offer acute and/or urgent care for minor illnesses and injuries via our nurse’s clinic. In the nurse’s clinic, a registered nurse sees the patient, assesses the problem and takes appropriate action. If immediate physician intervention is needed, patients are referred to our CU Now provider.
  • Laboratory

    Student Health Services (SHS) is staffed by five medical technologists who are registered with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. SHS' laboratory is accredited by the Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation and has received the Laboratory Excellence Award.

    Fees for Laboratory Procedures

    A nominal fee is charged on laboratory procedures performed at Redfern Health Center. Laboratory specimens that need to be sent to outside reference laboratories are collected at Redfern and will be charged accordingly. Negotiated prices for reference laboratory services keep the cost reasonable for our patients.

    Ordering Lab Procedures

    Can my family physician order lab procedures done at Redfern?

    We encourage you to ask your health care provider to fax orders to 864-656-1146 for laboratory procedures that you might need. You will then need to call the appointment line, 864-656-1541, to schedule a laboratory appointment. Before coming to the lab, you might want to call 864-656-3566 to verify that we have received the orders. You must present lab orders at least 24 hours in advance from the time of your laboratory procedure at Redfern.

    Orders need to include

    • order date;

    • health care provider’s name and signature;

    • health care provider’s phone and fax numbers;

    • diagnosis Code (DX);

    • clear list of all tests to be performed.

    Most test results can be returned in 24 to 48 hours, so please plan follow-up appointments accordingly. All laboratory results are returned to the ordering provider.

    Fasting Tests

    Some tests require you to fast in advance. Your health care provider should advise you if this is necessary. Fasting means nothing to eat or drink other than water for 10 to 12 hours before the lab test.

  • Radiology

    Student Health Services offers a variety of diagnostic radiographic procedures. Student Health Services' radiology department is staffed by two radiologic technologists who are registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and certified by the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association. Radiologists are certified by the American Board of Radiology.
