The scholars’ commitment to leadership extends to serving their community ­ at home and abroad. Scholars have worked in medical and dental clinics in Belize, the Dominican Republic, Kenya, Mexico and South Africa. Two alumni spent two consecutive summers teaching English to high school- and college-aged students in Slovakia.
 
Closer to campus, scholars are active with the campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity, and they helped to found Clemson’s chapter of Amnesty International. National Scholars were also integral in creating an elementary school tutoring program in which Calhoun
Honors College students assist students at a local school.
