Candice Rutherford is the Associate Director of E-Learning at Clemson Online. Her office oversees strategic academic initiatives such as compliance with government regulations, accreditation standards, universal design, and accessibility. Responsible for the strategic direction of academic excellence in online learning, she works closely with faculty to ensure that online classes that go through the ENCORE certification process, are pedagogically sounds, and provide a high-quality learning experience.
A former public school teacher, Candice is an Apple Distinguished Educator, Google Certified Teacher, and Microsoft Innovative Educator. Candice graduated cum laude from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and has her M.S. in Educational Technology Leadership from California State University. In 2002, Candice was a Fulbright candidate for the Distinguished Award in Teaching. As an adjunct faculty member and guest lecturer at Touro University, where she stays connected to the classroom and students.
Candice's research combines educational data mining, learning analytics, and educational equity to work on issues related to technology and best practices in online teaching and learning.
A leader in higher education, she has served as a WASC Committee Chair and maintains membership in several academic and professional organizations and also serves on the Clemson Online Faculty Advisory Board.
When Candice isn't deep in online curriculum design and development, you can find her spending time with her husband and four boys. She loves hiking, running half marathons, playing in water, yoga, and picking blackberries and making jam. Her favorite novel is The Great Gatsby by Fitzgerald, and she swoons over anything written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman.
