Center for Watershed Excellence / EPA Signing Ceremony

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) named Clemson as a Center of Excellence for Watershed Management in South Carolina. At the official ceremony, a memorandum of understanding was signed by the EPA Region 4 Office, the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) and the Clemson University Restoration Institute. Clemson is only the third center of its kind in the nation, and will be the first to focus on using remotely sensed monitoring data, enabling scientists to collect and analyze information through an integrated data network.
Coastal Plain Chapter of the Society for Ecological Restoration

The Clemson University Restoration Institute hosted the 2008 annual symposium and membership meeting of the Coastal Plain Chapter of SER. The theme of the symposium was Legacy Landscapes: Ecological Restoration in Post Industrial Settings.
This chapter of the international society includes scientists, land managers, landscape architects, engineers, community activists, students, and practitioners in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The purpose of the society is to promote ecological restoration as a means of sustaining the diversity of life on Earth and reestablishing an ecologically healthy relationship between nature and culture.
Savannah River at Risk Water Forum

Location: Southeastern Natural Sciences Academy, Martinez, GA
This public forum brought together scientists, environmentalists, engineers, regulatory agencies, economic developers, and other stakeholders from the 44 counties in the Savannah River watershed (Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina). The purpose of the forum was to foster discussions on river issues – saltwater intrusion in coastal areas, preserving recreation economies and sharing water supplies – and to broaden awareness of the impact the river has on the region’s economy and ecology.
The public forum on Savannah River water resource issues facing Georgia, North and South Carolina was held on Tuesday, Sept. 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The forum was hosted at Savannah Rapids Pavilion in Columbia County, Georgia as a free event and was open to the public.
