Current Projects

Sand River - Master planning process site

The Center is working with the City of Aiken, SC and Hitchcock Woods Foundation to formulate an Ecological Restoration Master Plan for Sand River. The Sand River Ecological Restoration Master Plan will establish goals, policies, and guidelines for the long-term Sand River restoration program. The master plan will describe the impact to ecological resources and prioritize individual restoration and remediation projects related to the Sand River ecological restoration program. Management of restoration projects within the urban setting is complex due to multiple stressors, therefore, a well crafted management plan must be developed as a supporting document to insure long-term sustainability of restoration activities.

Cyberinfrastructure

One of the major projects being developed on campus is the cyberinfrastructure-based digital watershed. The University awarded a $1.5 million grant to the Center for Watershed Excellence to develop the cyber platform and four demonstration projects. These projects include real-time monitoring of 215 miles of the Savannah River watershed; a low-impact development project in Georgetown, SC; a small watershed project at Lake Issaqueena in Clemson Forest in Pickens County, SC; and a segment of the Saluda River Watershed which is part of the CLUE - Changing Land Use and Environment program sponsored by Clemson University. The cyberinfrastructure network will be in place and online by October 2008. Regional projects, watershed group projects, among others, will be hosted on this platform. The outline for the network is demonstrated below:
