Tuition for all Biology courses is $950.

There are a number of options in the field of Biology this summer! In Session 2, you can take Biology (half-day) along with Beyond ER (half-day). However, if you would rather study Biology only, these options are available:

Session 1 (June 7th, 2015 — June 13th, 2015)

Forensic Detectives

This course is offered to rising 7th — 10th graders.

Intro to forensic science for CSI enthusiasts. Not only is DNA a useful crime-solving tool, it isn’t the only weapon detectives have in their crime-fighting arsenals. Series of labs and activities participants will experience forensics in a more realistic fashion than portrayed on TV.

Summer Scholars Course Divider

Session 3 (June 21st, 2015 — June 27th, 2015)

Genetic Horizons

This course is offered to rising 10th — 12th graders.

Investigates how genetic research is changing our lives. Students use DNA fingerprinting to identify suspects at a mock crime scene, use PCR to detect genetically modified foods, use bioinformatics to analyze and compare DNA sequences.

Session 4 (July 5th, 2015 — July 11th, 2015)

DNA Science

This course is offered to rising 7th — 10th graders.

Lab experience with the basic techniques of recombinant DNA, including DNA restrictions and ligation, bacterial transformation, and plasmid isolation.

Session 5 (July 12th, 2015 — July 18th, 2015)

Molecular Biology

This course is offered to rising 10th — 12th graders.

Topics to be covered include DNA/RNA chemistry, gene cloning, genetic engineering, manipulations of bacteria, bacterial transformations, isolation of plasmid and recombinant DNA, restriction analysis of DNA, agarose gel electrophoresis, hybridization, DNA sequencing and DNA fingerprinting.
