Former student Daniel Hutcherson:

"The Summer Exploration in Architecture Program at Clemson was an exciting two weeks of study + fun that highlighted my future career path in a positive direction.  Professor of Architecture, Yuji Kishimoto, AIA, was a mentor that I met as a rising senior in high school (Greer, SC).  These two fast camp weeks at Clemson taught me valuable life lessons that would help my transition from high school to a large university.  Our architecture group was toured across Clemson, Atlanta, and Greenville by Dr. Kishimoto with stops at two architecture firms (large and small) and the High Museum of Atlanta.  We started the program with a study of several leading architects, followed by designing furniture elements, and finished with a building design (mine of which was a V-shaped beach house).

Dr. Kishimoto and the supportive college staffers were exciting to be around as they introduced us to the college setting and the architectural studio.  The two weeks flew by and I left ready to apply to Clemson for architecture with a newfound perspective of the campus and its Clemson family.  As I reflect back on my undergraduate education in architecture I gained a great deal of respect for Dr. Kishimoto and professors like him.  Yuji was my first studio professor and my final senior year studio professor.  Thanks to the connections I made at the Summer Exploration Camp, I was able to make the most of my Clemson experience.  Afterwards, I applied to Clemson University with the confidence of knowing that I simply enjoyed my chosen field of study and the fact that I would find familiar and friendly faces along the way.

If you get the chance ”go running with Yuji!”  he will teach you way more than design and buildings!"
