Write Your Way into College and the Digital Age

This course is offered to rising 10th — 12th graders.

Writing for College Admissions – Morning Workshop

This course introduces students to the various forms of writing they will encounter while applying for college admissions and college scholarships. Students will learn what strategies to pursue and what errors to avoid as well as examine actual examples of college admissions essay prompts and discuss successful and unsuccessful responses to those prompts.

Students will practice writing college application essays and will leave the workshop with a complete draft. Students will work individually and in groups and receive individual guidance and feedback from their peers, the instructor, and current college students.

Creativity and Digital Literacy – Afternoon Workshop

This companion course teaches students to recognize and respond to the challenges of writing creatively and effectively across the many contexts and devices college students encounter. Students will learn strategies that encourage creativity, help them manage their digital identities across social networks, and prepare them to write college applications with style and wit. Students will have opportunities to develop creativity and digital literacy, two skills highly valued in college and industry, using Adobe Creative Cloud software on mobile and desktop devices in the Pearce Center.

These workshops will meet in the Pearce Center for Professional Communication, home to many of Clemson’s award-winning Writing Across the Curriculum initiatives. In every year that it has awarded the distinction, US News & World Report has named Clemson a “Top School for Writing in the Disciplines.”

Session dates TBD.

Tuition for this course is $900 before April 1st. After April 1st, tuition increases to $1000.
