1. Get a Passport
You can't go abroad without a passport. Visit the U.S. Department of State's website for a passport application.
2. Attend a Study Abroad 101 Session
A Study Abroad 101 Session will give you the information that you need to get started with the study abroad process. Learn about program options, financial aid information, how to apply credit earned abroad towards your degree, and get your questions answered!
Study Abroad 101 Sessions take place on the first Thursday of each month from 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm in E-304 Martin Hall (starting 9/6 through 12/6). You can also view the Study Abroad 101 Session online.
3. Explore program options
Clemson offers study abroad programs for all disciplines and interests. These include faculty-led programs, exchange programs, and third-party organizations and institutions.
4. Meet with your Academic Advisor
Meet with your Academic Advisor to discuss your academic requirements and identify potential classes or subjects that can be taken abroad.
5. Meet with a Study Abroad Advisor
Meet with a Study Abroad Advisor to discuss program options, financial aid, coursework, and go over application materials. Study Abroad Advisors are available Monday - Friday between 9am and 4pm. You can schedule an appointment with a Study Abroad Advisor through our online appointment system.
6. Research financial aid and scholarship opportunities
Make sure that you check with the Clemson Financial Aid office about using your financial aid while abroad. In addition, there are lots of scholarship opportunities for study abroad participants. Visit our Scholarships and Finances page for an updated list of study abroad scholarships.
7. Make your decision and apply
You'll need to complete an application to Clemson Study Abroad as well as to your chosen program.
8. Attend a Pre-Departure Orientation Session
At a Pre-Departure Orientation Session, you'll receive valuable information on safety, health, insurance, course registration, cultural adjustment and other important topics. Visit the Pre-Departure Orientation page for upcoming session dates.
