Animal and Veterinary Sciences Undergraduate Curricula
Students can select one of three concentrations: Animal Agribusiness, Equine Business, or Preveterinary and Science. All concentrations require general courses in chemistry, biology, mathematics, English, social sciences, and humanities. In addition, they all include basic animal science courses in the practices and principles of feeding, breeding, management, and care of farm livestock. Students should consult their advisor early in their college career to determine which courses taken as electives will be of most value in meeting their career goals and interests.

All students, regardless of their concentration, have free electives to choose any university course that interests them. Refinements are always being made to the curriculum with the help of students, faculty and alumni to make it even better in preparing graduates for exciting and challenging careers.

Preveterinary Medicine

Under a regional plan, the South Carolina Preveterinary Advisory Committee coordinates a program for South Carolina residents who are interested in pursuing careers in veterinary medicine. South Carolina residents attending any college or university may apply through the Veterinary Medical College Application Service (VMCAS) to the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. Currently the University of Georgia admits up to 17 students each year through arrangements with the Southern Regional Education Board. South Carolina has a contract with Mississippi State University to admit up to five South Carolina residents. The State of South Carolina also has a contract with Tuskegee University to admit up to four South Carolina residents. Application must be made directly to Tuskegee University.
