03/03/07 GWWO, Inc./Architects recently named John S. Easterling, AIA, LEED AP a senior associate of the firm

A project manager with the firm, John joined GWWO in early 2005 after working for 10 years for a Charlottesville, VA architectural firm. John's background includes extensive experience on institutional, cultural and higher education projects. He is currently project manager for a new Education Center for the Russell W. Peterson Urban Wildlife Refuge in Wilmington, Delaware and also oversaw the design of a new Nature Center for Killen Pond State Park in Felton, Delaware, which is scheduled to open later this year. Other clients he has worked with during his time at GWWO include the University of Maryland Baltimore and Calvert County Public Schools. John received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Clemson University and a Masters of Architecture from Rice University. He is a registered architect in Virginia.

GWWO, Inc./Architects is a full service architectural firm that specializes in the planning and design of cultural and educational facilities, with emphasis on quality design that is both inspirational and evocative. Current projects include the modernization and expansion of the Daniel Z. Gibson Performing Arts Center at Washington College, a new heritage center for Homestead National Monument of America in Nebraska, the new Vale Road Elementary School for Harford County Public Schools and a new Visitor Center for Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine.

05/16/06 Hans Herman, MArch 2003, Accepts Position at SUNY Delhi

Hans Herman has been appointed the head of the (upper division) 3-4 year Design/Build degree program at SUNY Delhi.. He is expected to create 2 to 4 new seminars (for next years class) while also teaching studio.

05/16/06 Clemson Grad Named ‘Fellow’ of the Construction Specifications Institute

Jonathan M. Miller, CSI, CCS, CCCA, SCIP, AIA, NCARB, a Vermont Architect and 1980 graduate of the School of Architecture, will be raised to Fellow of the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) at their 50th annual national convention in April. Fellowship is one of the two most prestigious honors given by the Institute.
CSI is a national association of construction industry members including specifiers, architects, engineers, facility managers, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, manufacturers and product representatives dedicated to advance the process of creating and sustaining the built environment. In its fifty-eight years, 355 CSI members have been elevated to Fellowship. Fellows are nominated by their colleagues and selected by a Jury of Fellows in recognition of their outstanding accomplishments in advancing construction technology, improving construction specifications, educating in the construction industry, or advancing the goals of the Institute. Miller is the first Fellow from the Vermont Chapter, chartered in 1968. A member of CSI for more than 15 years, he received its Environmental Sensitivity Award in 2002 for his work organizing the 'Green & Sustainable in Vermont' region conference at Basin Harbor Club. In 2004, he was awarded the Northeast Region CSI Distinguished Service Medal and is a recipient of the Joseph S. Zajchowski Dedicated Service Award from the Vermont Çhapter. He also established a popular monthly series of technical seminars in Burlington for construction industry professionals. Miller, a certified specifier and licensed architect, is a Senior Specification Consultant with Davis Langdon out of their Vergennes, Vermont office. Davis Langdon is a firm specializing in providing specification, cost management and sustainability consulting services globally.

01/06/06 GWWO Names New Associate

John S. Easterling, AIA (BArch ‘85) has been named an Associate at GWWO, Inc./Architects, where he serves as a Project Manager. He joined the firm in early 2005 after working for 10 years for a Charlottesville, VA architectural firm. John’s background includes extensive experience on theater-arts and higher education projects. He is currently project manager for a new Nature Center at Killen Pond State Park in Delaware and for renovations to the Tawes Building at Spring Grove Hospital for the University of Maryland Baltimore. John received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Clemson University and a Masters of Architecture from Rice University.

04/29/05 Keith W. Stames, AIA is new Senior Associate at Gresham, Smith & Partners

Recently elevated to the position of Senior Associate with the architecture firm of Gresham, Smith & Partners in the Birmingham, Alabama office. The firm is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. Mr. Starnes has been with the firm since 1995 and is a registered architect in Alabama and South Carolina, and is also a member of NCARB. He is also an elected Councilor for the Birmingham Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. Recent projects by Mr. Starnes and the firm include the Auburn University College of Sciences and Mathematics Laboratory and Teaching complex at Auburn University, Main Campus, the $7M Hyundai Training Center in Montgomery, Alabama, and the Corporate Headquarters for SouthTrust/Wachovia Bank in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. Starnes received his Bachelor of Architecture from Auburn University in 1987. He lives in Vestavia Hills, Alabama.

04/29/05 John S. Easterling, AIA, B.Arch 1985, has joined the Baltimore-based Architectural firm of GWWO, Inc./ Architects.

A registered architect with seventeen years experience, John Easterling will serve as a Project Manager for the firm. Mr. Easterling holds a Bachelor of Architecture from Clemson University (’85), a Masters of Science for Advanced Architectural Studies from University College London and a Masters in Architecture from Rice University. His background includes extensive work on cultural and higher education projects. Currently, he serves as the Project Manager for additions to two elementary schools in Calvert County, Maryland. GWWO, Inc. is a full service architectural firm that specializes in the planning and design of cultural and educational facilities, with emphasis on quality design that is both inspirational and evocative. Current projects include new facilities for George Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate & Gardens, an addition to Kenwood High School in Baltimore County and a new Heritage Center for Homestead National Monument of America in Nebraska.

 

11/01/04 Hans Herman, MArch 2003, Published in 306090

2003 MArch and McClure Prize co-recipient recipient Hans Hermann's Thesis project has been selected for publication in the Journal 306090, which promotes the work of students and young professionals in the fields of architecture and design. The project, Public Domain and the Dispersed City, is included in the issue Landscape within Architecture and is available from Princeton Architectural Press.

10/28/04 Thomas Phifer, MArch1977, Wins City Lights Competition

Thomas Phifer (born in South Carolina, 1953) is the Winner of the City Lights Competition. Phifer attended Clemson University, where he received a Bachelor of Architecture in 1975 and a Master of Architecture in 1977. He was a Senior Associate at Gwathmey Siegel and Associates from 1979-1985 and a Design Partner at Richard Meier & Partners from 1986-1996.
