In recent years environmentalists have started to urge the removal of
some dams, to restore the natural state of rivers and help fish.
If this seems like an obvious idea to you, think about how the Clemson
area would change if the dam that created Lake Hartwell was
removed. Whether it is a good idea to remove a dam will usually
be a matter of the tradeoffs for that particular dam. So rather
than arguing that dam removal is always a good idea or always a bad
idea consider the tradeoffs--under what circumstances do you think it
is a good idea to remove dams? Make sure to explain the views
both of those people who think dam removal is usually a good idea and
of those people who think dam removal is usually a bad idea.
