Briefly discuss the origins and development of National Forests and National Parks, especially focusing on the differences between the two in their goals and practices through the years (example of “goal”: preservation vs. conservation; examples of “practice”: fire suppression tactics, road building, and encouragement of tourism). Then, devote the bulk of your paper to comparing the two today. How well is each living up to their original intentions? Are the two still so different as to warrant separate agencies? Which one is more preservationist today, and why?
