 Educational Background


MSG Joe L. Medrano enlisted in the Army in 1997 and attended Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training as a 12B (Combat Engineer) at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He has served as a Combat Engineer, Team Leader, Squad Leader, Platoon Sergeant, Observer/Control and Trainer, and Company First Sergeant. MSG Medrano’s assignments include B Co 91st Engr BN, 1st Calvary Division (First Team), Fort Hood, TX; C Co 44th Engr BN, 2nd Infantry Division (Second to None), Camp Howze, Korea: 43rd Combat Engr Co, 2nd Squadron, 3rd Calvary Regiment, (Brave Rifles) Fort Carson, CO/ Fort Hood, TX; 3rd Engr BN, 410th Regiment, Fort Knox, KY; Aco 4th Bde Special Troops BN, 4th Infantry Brigade, 1st Infantry Division (Big Red One), Fort Riley, KS; and the Clemson University ROTC, 4th Brigade, Cadet Command (Leadership Excellence). MSG Medrano has deployed to Bosnia Herzegovina, twice to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, and once to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. MSG Medrano’s military and civilian education includes Warrior Leader Course, Unit Prevention Leader Course, Advance Leader Course, Senior Leader Course, Battle Staff, Counter Explosive Hazard Planner Course; Senior ROTC Pre-Command Course, Master Resilience Training, First Sergeant Course. MSG Medrano currently holds an Associate in Applied Science from Central Texas College. MSG Medrano’s awards and decorations include: Bronze Star Medal (2 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal (1 SOLC), the Army Achievement Medal (1 SOLC, 2 OLC), the Army Good Conduct Medal (5th Award), the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal (1 CS), the Iraq Campaign Medal (3 CS), the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the NCO Professional Development Ribbon (numeral 3), the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon (numeral 4), the NATO Medal , the Valorous Unit Award, and the Combat Action Badge as well as being a Bronze De Fleury Medal recipient. He is also a member of the Distinguished Sergeant Audie Murphy Club as well as the Order of the Spur. MSG Medrano and his wife Alyssa have three kids: Luis (14), Jose (8) and Yahitza (4).
