The Department
The Department of Civil Engineering at Clemson University is one of the 20 largest civil engineering departments in the United States. The Department offers undergraduate and graduate course work in the major fields of civil engineering. The Clemson University Civil Engineering Undergraduate degree program leads to the ABET accredited Bachelor of Science degree. Read about our undergraduate Program Educational Objectives.
Specializations
The program provides education in the major subdisciplines: structural engineering, transportation engineering, hydraulics and hydrology, geotechnical engineering, construction materials, and construction engineering and management. Undergraduate students can choose technical electives to complete an "emphasis" in a particular subdiscipline, such as environmental engineering.
Degree Programs
The department offers a comprehensive undergraduate program leading to the B.S.C.E. degree. Graduate programs in Civil Engineering lead to the MS and Ph.D. degrees with specializations in applied fluid mechanics, Construction Engineering and Management, Construction Materials, Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering and Transportation systems.
The Students
Clemson has the award-winning student chapters of ASCE and ITE. The ASCE student concrete canoe team won three national competitions. In 2005 we hosted the National Concrete Canoe Competition. The ASCE steel bridge team also competes annually in the national competition, and in 2001 we hosted this national event and our students won the competition that year. The ITE Student Chapter won the 2006 ITE Best Chapter Award.
