Serita Acker, Director

Serita earned her bachelor’s degree from Lander University and a Master of Education in Human Resource and Development from Clemson University. Before becoming the PEER/WISE director in August 2015, Serita Acker was Director of the Women in Science and Engineering program. Additionally, she has more than 25 years of experience in higher education, both in the areas of student support services, mentoring, and diversity programs. She is a certified Global Career Development Facilitator and Academic Coach. Serita Acker sees the PEER/WISE main role as providing student success programs and services that can equip students with the resources they need to excel at Clemson University and achieve their educational goals so that they are prepared for success after graduation.

She has won several several State and National Awards:  Clemson University Woman of the Year, Martin Luther King Jr. Award,  Clemson University Board of Trustee Award, WEPAN Distinguished Service Award, Career Communications College Level promotion of Education Award, Upstate Diversity Award Calder D. Elhmann Outstanding Individual.

She also serves as MentorLinks Consultant for the American Association of Community Colleges in Washington DC and sits on many state and national boards to help promote STEM.  In her spare time, she enjoys reading and traveling.

Ms. Thomas received her BS in Technology & Human Resources Development from Clemson University. She began working in PEER & WISE in 2014. She is responsible for managing activities related to personnel, payroll, procurement and accounting. She manages the office support staff and assists professional staff members in meeting departmental objectives. Francene enjoys being involved in programs that support student success.

Sue Lasser founded PEER in 1987, and served as its director for 28 years.  She stepped down in July of 2015, but continues to serve PEER and WISE on a part-time basis as a personal counselor and study coach.  In 1996, Sue was among the first winners of the national Presidential Awards for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring; in 2005, she was honored by Clemson with the Martin Luther King Service Award.  Sue is a National Certified Counselor.  She also currently serves as co-Faculty-in-Residence with her husband, Dr. William Lasser, in the Clemson Honors Residential College.

Johnsie Stancil earned her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Spanish from Clemson University and her Master’s degree in Child and Family Studies from the University of Tennessee. Before becoming the WISE Coordinator, Johnsie worked for the national dropout prevention agency Communities In Schools in Greenville, SC. She also served as an AmeriCorps member for the Communities In Schools/Children First affiliate in Asheville, NC. She is dedicated to supporting underserved populations and empowering women in both her professional and personal life. As the Women In Science and Engineering (WISE) Coordinator, Johnsie has the pleasure of overseeing the WISE and WISER programs in the College of Engineering, Computing, and Applied Sciences. These programs support incoming Freshmen and Sophomores by offering student success programs and services that can prepare students to reach all their educational goals during their time at Clemson. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, running, and hanging out with her family, friends, and two amazing dogs.

Lisa Jackson obtained her Bachelors of Science Degree in Economics/Accounting from Benedict College in Columbia, South Carolina.Prior to becoming the PEER Coordinator, Lisa worked for the South Carolina Department of Employment and Workforce as a Career Development Specialist. Lisa is a Global Career Development Facilitator and an Advance Academic Coach. As the PEER Coordinator, Lisa oversees the freshman PEER mentoring program and manages several other outreach, recruitment and retention programs. When not working Lisa enjoys reading, shopping and enjoying family and friends.
