The Charles H. Houston Center's research explores the impact of personal characteristics, school characteristics, and academic and social experiences on African American students' academic achievement, psychosocial development, and educational outcomes from pre-kindergarten through college.
Overall, the research conducted at the Charles H. Houston Center examines the following questions:
•What is the impact of demographic and family characteristics, community variables, historical conditions, economic factors, as well as informal and formal learning experiences on African American students' educational experiences and academic outcomes?
•What is the influence of classroom and non-classroom experiences on African American students’ educational and social development?
•To what extent does racial, ethnic, cultural, economic, organizational, and instructional diversity in educational settings influence experiences as well as cognitive and affective outcomes for students and educational personnel?
