The mission of the Charles H. Houston Center's Office of Academic Excellence is to implement precollege enrichment programs and academic mentoring programs that support the recruitment and retention of college students. Additionally, the Office of Academic Excellence provides counseling, study skills, and academic support services to meet students’ needs and enhance their academic outlook at Clemson University.

The Charles H. Houston Center coordinates educational experiences for high school students in the summer that are designed to increase students’ scores on college admissions tests and introduce students to career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

In collaboration with Clemson's School of Computing, the Charles H. Houston Center's Office of Academic Excellence presents an innovative program, Camp CyberGirls, which is designed to help students learn computing skills such as programming, three-dimensional modeling, avatar design and animation in the context of an online virtual world called the Curiosity Grid that forms the home for an interactive, informal learning environment for middle and high school students.
