The mission of the Charles H. Houston Center's Office of Academic Excellence is to implement precollege enrichment and academic mentoring programs that support the recruitment and retention of college students. Accordingly, the Office of Academic Excellence coordinates the SAT Boot Camp and the Clemson Career Workshop. Additionally, the office provides counseling, study skills, and academic support services to meet students’ needs and enhance their academic outlook at Clemson University.

The Charles H. Houston Center coordinates educational experiences for high school students in the summer that are designed to increase students’ scores on college admissions tests (SAT Boot Camp) and introduce students to career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (Clemson Career Workshop).

In collaboration with Clemson's School of Computing, the Charles H. Houston Center's Office of ACademic Excellence presents an innovative program, Camp CyberGirls, which is designed to help students learn computing skills such as programming, three-dimensional modeling, avatar design and animation—all in the context of an online virtual world called the Curiosity Grid that forms the home for an interactive, informal learning environment for middle and high school students.
This event is designed for high school students and parents to provide helpful information about the following: (a) test taking strategies, (b) the college admissions process, (c) how to find scholarships for college, and (d) developing a plan for college.
The Office of Academic Excellence’s Charles H. Houston Center and the Greenville Regional Office of South Carolina Personal Pathways for Success collaborates to implement the PSAT/SAT workshop for high school students.
