Optional Retirement Program (ORP): What can I change on my optional retirement plan during the annual open enrollment period?


During the annual open enrollment period for 2013, the following options are available for ORP participants:


1. Change vendors.


2. If eligible, irrevocably switch to the South Carolina Retirement System Plan (SCRS).

Eligibility to switch:  participants must have a minimum of 12 months of participation but no more than 60 months of participation by March 1, 2013. 

Employees switching to the SCRS Plan will become a class III member.

It is important for all ORP participants switching to the SCRS Plan to give serious consideration to purchasing part or all of their ORP service to change from a Class III to a Class II member.
