Registration

Clemson University offers a wide range of flexibility in course registration. While Clemson is primarily known for engineering, math sciences, and agricultural studies, the possibilities of classes are endless. After you have applied to Clemson, you will receive a catalog of Undergraduate Announcements. Notice that the outline for educational requirements for each major are listed with many options to customize your education. The requirements start with general education requirements and gradually specify to your major.

At orientation, everything you need to know about registering for your courses will be explained, but here are a few tips to help you before hand. First, already know before hand the classes you are interested in taking, but have many other options because classes do fill quickly for freshman. Look at the general layout presented in the Undergraduate Announcements catalog, and for each requirement listed try to find two other classes that could fit that requirement. This will make registering much simpler. Second, be realistic about the kind of course load you decide to take. As freshman, you are only allowed to take seventeen hours unless you make special arrangements, however, you will be surprised how busy you are the first semester of your freshman year. Third, take advantage of the flexibility of classes Clemson has to offer. Make sure you don’t stray too far from your requirements, but take classes that you are interested in because that will make the class much more successful.

Spring registration usually takes place late October or early November. You should be notified about this by your adviser. You must make an appointment with your adviser before registering. They will give you an access code that you must have in order to register for classes. You can register in the convenience of your own dorm by logging onto SIS/Student Information which can be found on the Clemson homepage. To see what classes you need to take for your major, go to SIS/Student Information, click on SIS on the Web, type in your user ID and password and click on “Request a What-If Degree Progress Report” and follow the instructions. Good luck with registering for classes.
