Announcement Regarding Fall 2020 Education Abroad
Dear Clemson Students,
Due to the continuing complications of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated travel restrictions, all student travel associated with Fall 2020 education abroad programs has been cancelled. We have seen no change in the travel advisories from either the Department of State or the Centers for Disease Control. Both agencies are still strongly advising against travel. Our partners abroad report the continued limitations on local travel, quarantines, airport closures and more. Additionally, it is still unclear when commercial travel will resume. Rather than delay this decision any longer, we are letting you know now so that you may focus on making the appropriate plans for the Fall 2020 semester including contacting your academic advisor, financial aid, and making arrangements for housing.
We would have loved to spend our summer helping you prepare for your time abroad. It breaks our hearts to see your dreams delayed. Below, you’ll see that we’ve developed a few programs with our on-site partners to provide academically challenging and professionally impactful virtual experiences for eligible students. Please know that we are still here to help you prepare to go abroad once circumstances allow.

Fall 2020 Programs Converted to Virtual+ Options
Innovative programming is being offered in partnership with our in-country colleagues for students whose fall program fulfills the off-campus or study abroad requirement of their major. Clemson’s new Virtual+ model combines online instruction and virtual immersion with the potential for short-term travel should conditions allow. Students in the following academic majors should contact the appropriate advisor for more information:
- Landscape Architecture
- Language and International Business (Spanish only)
- Language and International Health (Spanish only)
- Spanish (minors included)
Fall 2020 Cancelled Programs
Due to the continuing complications of the COVID-19 pandemic and associated travel restrictions, the following education abroad programs for Fall 2020 will not be offered:
- Third Party Provider Programs
- Exchange Programs
- Direct Enrollment Programs
- Clemson in Rome
- Clemson Spanish and Internships in Spain
Decisions about Spring 2021 programs will be announced no later than October 31. If circumstances will not yet allow travel, we do plan to offer additional Virtual+ programming.
