CUGA Handbook: Guide Association Responsibilities

As a member of the Clemson University Guide Association, you will be required to do the following:

  1. Attend every training session and all regularly scheduled meetings of the Association. You are required to attend all training sessions. We understand that sometimes it is necessary to miss regular tour guide meetings. You are allowed two (2) absences from regular meetings per semester.
  2. Give regularly scheduled tours as your class schedule allows. We offer tours Monday – Saturday at 9:45 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. There is also a 1:45 p.m. tour available on Sunday.
  3. The Clemson University Guide Association hosts the President’s Box each year during football season. It is a commitment of at least two hours before kickoff up until kickoff.
  4. Special tours are set-up through the Visitors Center for groups of people coming onto campus. These include prospective students, alumni, newcomers, etc. Guides are expected to volunteer for these as these tours fit into your class schedule.
  5. You are required to put in an hour of time helping at the front desk during the training process. You may do this all at once or break it up into two 30 minute sessions. This time is required to understand how the desk works and learn how to correctly answer telephones, distribute parking passes, and communicate with the public. The reason for asking you to do this is so you are prepared in case you are ever at the front desk and the desk worker is busy with another visitor or task and needs your assistance.
  6. Tour guides also are responsible for decorating Tillman, Godfrey, Holtzendorf, and Sikes Halls with holiday lights. Plan to assist with these shortly after Thanksgiving!
  7. You are asked to help CUGA participate in Organization’s Day. The tour guides usually put out a table to help with guide recruitment.
