Semester Abroad: Genoa Italy
Clemson’s visual arts students may take advantage of the opportunity to spend a semester of study abroad in Genoa, Italy, at the University’s Charles E. Daniel Center for Building Research and Urban Studies. The curriculum is a combination of Art History, studio and directed studies with a focus on exposure and research. The Daniel Center serves as a studio, classroom and home base for travel through out Europe. Students participate in guided trips to art and architectural landmarks through out Italy. The curriculum also incorporates two weeks of open travel for students to explore specific areas of interest. The cost is significant but there are special fellowships available to offset expenses. Interested students should consult their major advisor, Graduate Coordinator or Deparment Chair.
Summer Abroad: Orvieto, Italy
The Orvieto program is a shorter summer excursion that features travel to major Italian cities. Orvieto serves as a exceptional starting point as students can get a sense of the daily life in a small Italian hill town. The itenirary changes yearly to incorporate events in Italy. The most recent Orvieto trip attended the 2007 Venice Biennale. Typically students visit Rome,Venice and Florence seeking out museums, exhibits and architecture. Travel presents an opportunity to see monumental art works in person. Lectures are conducted in front of the pieces in question, providing a rich and memorable educational experience. Students considering going abroad to Italy are advised to take an Italian language course prior to travel.
