Are you ready to explore all those concepts you learned in the classroom? The faculty in the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Clemson University believe that undergraduates can and do make important contributions to the field of materials science through their creativity and research. They also believe that working in a research laboratory can be a transformative experience for undergraduate and help motivate them to continue onto graduate school.
To help students develop to their full potential as researchers, the CU faculty have created the Interfaces and Surfaces Research Experience for Undergraduates program . This program accepts 14 students for a 10 week summer program where students will conduct cutting edge research. The program is lead by two Clemson University faculty- Dr. M. Kennedy (School of Materials Science and Engineering) and Dr. J. Martin (Department of Engineering and Science Education). Drs. Kennedy and Martin help pair students with faculty mentors.

Financial support for this program comes from the National Science Foundation Division of Materials Research (Award number: 1062873) and the Clemson University Center for Optical Materials Science and Engineering Technologies.
