Early Childhood Internship I Field Experience

The Internship I Field Experience for Early Childhood Education majors is usually completed during the first semester of a student’s senior year. During this semester, commonly referred to as “Block,” student interns enroll in four content area courses and spend two full days per week in elementary school classrooms. Student interns are expected to arrive at their field placements at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the school day and to stay at least 15 minutes after students are dismissed. While in the field, student interns assist classroom teachers with routine responsibilities. In addition, student interns collect school and classroom artifacts representing the ten ADEPT Performance Standards and conduct observations of how the APSs affect classroom teaching and learning. All interns are required to plan and teach a minimum of three formal lessons, one observed by an assigned University Supervisor, and two observed by the Cooperating Teacher. These lessons require written plans following University guidelines.
