Grant Description

The Biotechnology Risk Assessment Research Grants Program (BRAG) seeks to assist Federal regulatory agencies in making science-based decisions about the safety of introducing into the environment genetically modified organisms, including plants, microorganisms, fungi, bacteria, viruses, arthropods, fish, birds, mammals, and other animals. The research proposals submitted to this competitive grants program must address risk assessment or risk managemnt on the safety of introducing these organisms into the environment, reasearch methods to monitor the dispersal of such organisms, research to increase the knowledgee of the the characteristics of genes transfers between such organisms, analyze the impact of genetically engineered organisms as compared to other types of production systems, or other research areas that further BRAG.

Approximately $3 million was available for 2004.
