Education
Dr.
Blouin graduated from Ecole Centrale Nantes, France, in 1993
with a Engineering Diploma equivalent to a Bachelor’s
degree. He earned a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering
in 1999 and a Ph.D. in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering
in 2001 from the University of Michigan. Dr. Blouin was a Research
Associate (2000-2004) and Visiting Assistant Professor (2005-2006)
in Mechanical Engineering at Clemson University before accepting
a joint appointment in the School of Architecture and the School
of Materials Science and Engineering in 2007.
Research
Finite
Element numerical modeling of structural and thermal systems.
Applications include the structural analysis of the H.L. Hunley
submarine, modeling of the molding process of precision glass
lenses, and design and optimization of non-pneumatic tires (tweels)
for space applications. Experimental activities include material
characterization of historic artifacts and buildings by non-destructive
testing and strain measurement techniques. Other research activities
include decomposition and coordination of large scale design
problems by Augmented Lagrangian Coordination, and design under
uncertainty and risk.
