Clemson University has responded to its immediate financial crisis — including a $38 million cut in state funds since July 1— by eliminating vacant positions, freezing hiring, cutting travel, delaying construction projects, and implementing a mandatory 5-day furlough for all faculty and staff.
Human Resources has detailed information on the furlough programs (mandatory and voluntary), the voluntary reduction-in-time program and the retirement incentive program for employees in Facilities and PSA (Public Service and Agriculture).
Our full attention has now turned to budgeting for the next fiscal year and beyond. Our top priority is to protect academic quality and core mission areas, especially what happens in the classroom between faculty and students.
Task Forces appointed in December have completed their work and reported to the Administrative Council. Each report is being reviewed by the administration and executive Budget Strategy Team to see which recommendations can and should be implemented, and in what time frame.
Clemson’s success to date is due to the strong community we have built on this campus. We did it by listening to each other, working hard and working together. Please continue to send me your suggestions and questions (Clemson ID required). We will consider every suggestion and try to answer the key questions.
Thank you.
