Lexington County Stormwater Consortium

Out & About ...

On October 22, 2009, ninety-eight persons attended the Get Out!  Greenways – Connecting Business, Health and the Outdoors conference held in the Town of Lexington. The nationally and regionally known speakers covered everything from the health benefits of greenways to the cost of not having them in our communities. We learned we can pay for not being active in our health cost as a nation or we can invest in areas that encourage our citizens to get out and walk and bike. Greenways are a perfect tool in the solution to this long term question, and they preserve land and link communities with business. Lots of models were offered to the audience and it was shown how it has made a difference in business recruitment where communities have invested in this type of infrastructure. Persons who lived next to greenways have shown to be more active and enjoy the convenience of having green space next to them, not to mention the increased value of properties.
