Recertification

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT:
South Carolina's new Construction General Permit (CGP) is not yet finalized. As a result, DHEC will automatically extend CEPSCI certifications that are currently scheduled to expire June 30, 2012 with a new expiration of December 31, 2012. CEPSCI recertification classes will be postponed to allow adequate time for the CGP to be issued and course material modified to reflect important changes in permit language. It is anticipated that Clemson University will teach several CEPSCI recertification courses beginning in late August 2012, which will allow sufficient opportunity for individuals to obtain recertification prior to December 31.

Please note that the blanket six-month extension only applies to those inspectors whose certification is scheduled to expire on June 30, 2012.

CEPSCI Recertification Process

Prior to the expiration date shown on CEPSCI identification cards, Certified Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control Inspectors are required by SC DHEC to complete a DEHEC approved professional development training in order to be recertified. Recertification does not require testing for any CEPSCI personnel who complete the approved training prior to his/her certification’s expiration date. Recertification is not permitted by persons who are not currently certified, because either they have never completed CEPSCI certification or they have let their certification lapse. In either of these situations, the potential CEPSCI must complete the full CEPSCI certification process including the approved course followed by successfully passing the exam. (Please visit the CEPSCI Initial Certification page for additional information about this process.)

CEPSCI Recertification Schedule

You should take the recertification course at the earliest possible date. While there will be sufficient courses and seats available for all inspectors needing to complete recertification, we cannot guarantee that recertification can be completed by June 30 for persons who do not complete the course by June 28. Please recognize that any person who conducts an inspection without current certification, as well as any site thus inspected, is in violation of state requirements and may be subject to enforcement actions.
