Military Youth and Family Support
Military youth, families, and active military at installations and geographically dispersed in communities are the focus audience of this initiative. With the approximately 40,000 military children that live in South Carolina, the program's goal is to support these children in two different ways. First, the Military 4-H Club support program targets youth involved with youth centers to connect them with county Extension offices for programming support. The Army, Air Force, and Navy have made a commitment to ensure that all military youth have access to a 4-H Club.
Another program, Operation Military Kids (OMK), focuses on National Guard, Reservist, and those that are geographically dispersed. OMK has a special focus on families during the deployment cycle, pre-, during, and after deployment. The objectives of these military support programs include: building community capacity to create localized support networks, raise community awareness about the impact of deployment on military children, and implement educational programs through local networks.
