Katie Mixon – Associate Producer/on-screen talent
We are pleased to welcome Katie Mixon as the newest member of the “Expeditions” crew! She brings a wealth of expertise in both performing arts and natural history to our crew as well as an incredible enthusiasm and personality. Katie has an Associates of Science in Zoo Animal Science from Pensacola College, a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from the University of South Carolina and a Post Graduate in Classical Theatre from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. Katie has worked as conservation educator, natural history interpreter, zookeeper, tour guide and actress on screen and stage. Katie currently teaches at Riverbanks Zoo and is an educator and actor with the South Carolina Shakespeare Company.
Katie fell in love with nature at a young age playing in the waters of Lake Murray searching for frogs, bugs and anything that moved! Since then she has cared for Komodo Dragons, Vampire Bats, Leatherback Sea Turtles and many more exotic animals in zoo’s across the United States and conservation projects in conjunction with Riverbanks Zoo and Garden and the World Wildlife Fund. Katie was the host, writer and producer for “Riverbanks Roundup!” an SCETV E-Media production. Recently she worked with Australia Zoo and Rustic Pathways on Australia’s Sunshine Coast guiding teenagers through a summer of volunteering as zookeepers and exciting adventures like surfing and scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef.
In her own words, “Joining Expeditions with Patrick McMillan is a dream come true, and Katie can’t wait to learn more secrets of nature with Patrick and the crew!” She is ready to take on the challenges and share new Expeditions with everyone. We are very excited to have her skills and expertise taking our program to an even higher level.
Colin Knight, Wildlife Videographer
Colin Knight started as a still photographer, shooting simple candid scenes of urban life. Quick to follow was a pashion for bird photography and wildlife photography in general. After years of pursuing this fulfilling but very challenging venture, he eventually won several regional and national nature photography contests as well as gaining publishment in several magazines. Eventually his interests divided in to capturing the dynamics of nature through video as well as still images. Colin had been filming wildlife independently for a couple of years before being recruited to film for Expeditions.
