Southern Region Activities

Southern Region Advisory Committee (SRAC)

The Advisory Committee members provide stakeholder linkages, technical advice and reviews of proposed regional activities. These committees operate under the purview of the regional association. Department chairs are members of the SRACs. If a chair desires to attend SRAC meetings, departmental administrative funds should be used.

Southern Region Development Committee (SRDC)

A Development Committee (DC) is responsible for preparing the justification and proposal for establishing or replacing a multistate research project. The Experiment Station will allocate up to $1,000 for travel to the annual meeting to a faculty member with a regional project when there is a reasonable expectation that the faculty member will be asked to serve on the DC.

Multistate Research Project (MRF)

The multistate project involves cooperative, jointly planned research employing multidisciplinary approaches in which multiple Experiment Stations cooperate to solve problems that concern more than one state and/or region. The Experiment Station will allocate up to $1,000 for travel to the annual meeting to the faculty member who is SC's representative to a multistate research project.

Southern Extension/Research Activities (SERA)

A SERA serves to integrate education (academic and/or extension) and research on a particular topic where multistate coordination or information exchange is appropriate. The Experiment Station will allocate up to $500 for a faculty member to attend the annual meeting of the SERA. The faculty member must have an Experiment Station (Hatch or MRF) project to qualify. The funds will be transferred to that project.

Southern Region Coordinating Committee (SCC)

The coordinating committee provides a mechanism for administrative recognition and approval of groups of scientists to work cooperatively to solve problems that concern more than one state and share research data. The Experiment Station will allocate up to $500 for a faculty member to attend the annual meeting of the SCC. The faculty member must have an Experiment Station (Hatch or MRF) project to qualify. The funds will be transferred to that project.
