Robin J. Kimbrough-Melton (BS, Southern Methodist; JD, Nebraska) is a research professor and associate director of Strong Communities. Prof. Kimbrough-Melton has held positions at the University of South Carolina’s Institute for Families in Society, the American Bar Association, and the American Public Human Services Association. She also has served as a legal counsel with two state legislatures.

Prof. Kimbrough-Melton has long been active in service system reform in juvenile justice, criminal justice, education, social services, substance abuse services, and the courts. Recognized with a Founder's Award by the National Association of Drug Court Professionals, she is currently secretary of the American Orthopsychiatric Association and co-chair of its Task Force on Mental Health and Human Rights. Having led several projects to develop innovative means of integration of treatment and community action into the legal system, she is currently actively involved in several community development projects in South Carolina. Prof. Kimbrough-Melton is director of Building Dreams, a federally funded effort to enhance support for children of prisoners.
