Joyce A. Ott (BA, MS, Ph.D., Florida State) is a research assistant professor who is an expert in planning and evaluating projects and systems of support for families, children and communities.

Dr. Ott is Co-Principal Investigator in a capacity building project with the South Carolina Department of Social Services to strengthen child care systems and services.  She is designing instruments to survey child care professionals and will compare, analyze and disseminate the results in 10-year review of the State’s Child Care Workforce.  Having worked extensively in the design phase of the National Bullying Prevention Campaign, Prof. Ott continues to consult on plans and products for the well-recognized Stop Bullying Now! Campaign sponsored by the Health Resources and Services Administration.  Prof. Ott has been invited to speak at national and state conferences on bullying prevention. She is a certified Olweus Bullying Prevention trainer and Co-Leader for South Carolina. She was formerly the assistant director of IFNL’s Center for Grassroots and Nonprofit Leadership.
    
Prior to joining the Institute faculty, Prof. Ott worked in the Center for Child and Family Studies at the University of South Carolina, where she administered a national demonstration project to design and implement comprehensive family assessments and integrated service plans for low-income families receiving benefits through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. Prof. Ott moved to South Carolina from Florida, where she administered a State Technical Assistance Research grant to evaluate the quality of education and training initiatives for the Florida Department of Labor, and served as staff director for the Florida Affordable Housing Study Commission. She has held high-level administrative positions in two state departments performing strategic planning, research and evaluation, and has consulted with hundreds of community development corporations and non-profit organizations.
 
Her interests are policy research and analysis in education; program evaluation and qualitative methods in research; international/intercultural development education; and organizational development, management, and human resource development. She has taught courses in international educational foundations and cross-cultural human development, and periodically teaches classes in International Family and Community Studies.
