State and Federal Quarantines

Federal and state quarantines exist to limit the dissemination of harmful insects, diseases, and weeds to uninfested areas.  Quarantines provide the means for states to control the spread of plant pests of concern through specific restrictions, tests, or inspections of regulated materials.  Both state and federal quarantines require those moving nursery stock or other regulated articles to sign a compliance agreement which summarizes the conditions under which regulated materials may be shipped.  Determining shipping requirements prior to movement of restricted articles can help avoid shipping and delivery delays, rejections of plant materials, and introduction of exotic pests into new areas.

For information regarding shipment of nursery stock or other articles to specific areas, please contact the Department of Plant Industry at 864-646-2130.
