About the Equine Center
Our purpose is to provide a safe and efficient working Equine Unit to support and serve the Clemson University research faculty and staff in research performance. Our goal is to support the students and teaching faculty in the ongoing teaching programs and the Extension Program and to produce and sell quality horses, improving the reputation of Clemson University throughout the Southeastern Equine Industry and beyond.
The Equine Center maintains approximately 100 head of Quarter Horses, Paints, and Thoroughbreds. The University utilizes horses for research, teaching, and Extension purposes. The main farm consists of 80 acres of pastureland housing approximately half the herd year round. An additional 60 acres of grazing at the Simpson Experimental Station keeps horses not actively involved in teaching. The main farm’s classroom offers a lecture period prior to the hands-on portions of the equine classes. To download the PDF brochure of this farm, click here (PDF, 1.1 MB).
