Create a Living Legacy

The South Carolina Botanical Garden is a sanctuary for plants and wildlife, and is treasured by all who visit here. The Garden is a place of reflection and repose; a living legacy for generations to come.

Recognizing this, many people seek to pay tribute to loved ones in the Garden, be it in celebration of a milestone, in honor of someone special, or in memory of a loved one. The Garden offers three types of tribute opportunities:

memorial benchGarden benches are ideal locations for personal reflection and meditation or simply relaxing during a stroll. Garden benches are made of kiln-dried sustainably grown teak and are mounted on brick pads. Exact locations for benches are determined by the Garden's master landscape plan, but specific areas may be requested. Benches cost $2,000, which includes a plaque (max. 25 words), installation, and placement in the Garden for 10 years. Benches are renewable for another 10 years for the going price at that time.

Planting a tree adds enjoyment and life to the Garden for years to come. For $500, you may purchase a tribute tree. Garden staff will discuss with you the types of trees that would be appropriate for specific areas, and will provide information on the tree and its future location. Trees will be purchased and planted, and a very brief note about the honoree will be added to the sign that identifies the tree. Tree donations cover the life of the tree only.

One-time Gifts

Instead of sending flowers, support an entire garden. Make a gift to the Garden in honor of a friend who loves gardening, or in memory of a loved one who visited here often. Donations can be made to the general Garden fund or to specific areas within the Garden. With your gift donation, include information about the recipient or the recipient's family, and an acknowledgment of your gift will be mailed to them.

Naming Opportunities

Several areas of the Garden are still available for naming and endowments. Consider honoring your loved one by funding a trail, garden area, plant collection, Garden building or program. Contact Darlene Evans (864-656-3405 or for more information on available areas and costs.
